America’s Sensory Impaired Veterans Organization Organizing Chapters The heart and soul of America’s Sensory Impaired Veterans Organization is its chapters. Our local chapters consist of members who help each other and help other veterans in their local community. They will be in the forefront when it comes to filling our mission.  Their involvement with helping their local VA Medical Centers and communities is their primary purpose and will enable other veterans to obtain the help they need. A local ASIVO chapter will be formed under our National ASIVO By-Laws (Article VII: Section 5: Chapters) whenever there are 10 or more ASIVO members who wish to form a local community chapter.  As stated in our By Laws,  “It shall be the policy of the America’s Sensory Impaired Veterans Organization that Chapters shall be allowed the greatest amount of freedom of action and liberty consistent with reasonable control by the National Organization to ensure Chapters comply with ASIVO’s exempt purposes.” Once a charter is granted to a chapter by the National Board of Directors of ASIVO, the chapter will be able to obtain it’s own Federal 501(C 3) status and have the freedom to raise funds and use them as the Chapter wishes as long as they are in accordance with Federal 501(C 3) guidelines and those guidelines set forth in Article VII: Section 6. Chapter(s) Income and Expenditures of the National ASIVO By Laws. The local community based chapter will be able to help, not only other members of ASIVO, but also those veterans and other programs that the chapter feels is needed. They will be able to help another veteran in obtaining transportation to and from their local VA Medical Center, to purchase equipment a veteran might. A local chapter will be able to donate funs to different departments of their local VA Medical Center and help with our National Field Service Program, which will help, not only Native American veterans and those veterans with sensory impairments but other veterans as well.  Once a chapter has been granted it’s Federal 501 (C 3) status, a portion of all members, who join the local chapter after that, lifetime membership dues will remain with the local chapter. A local chapter(s) will be allowed to host the National Convention and all funds raised by the chapter(s) beyond the expense of the National Convention will remain with the local chapter(s). ASIVO believes that the local chapter is in a better position to help veterans in their community and gives the local chapter the flexibility to do just that.
