TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY (TBI)
The Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) estimates that traumatic brain injuries affect 20 percent of our military engaged in the current conflicts. America’s Sensory Impaired Veterans Organization (AVISO) and its’ Field Service Officers will do our utmost to insure that veterans with Traumatic Brain Injuries receive the very best medical attention, rehabilitation needed and receive whatever Veterans Administration compensation is available. We are fully committed in working closely with the Department of Veterans Affairs and other agencies at all levels in helping veterans and families improve their quality of life. Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is often referred to as the “invisible wound” since a Veteran may not indicate outward signs. TBI may result from events that jar the brain in explosions, physical assaults, falls or automobile accidents. Penetrating wounds are also closely associated with this condition. Studies conducted by the Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Research and Development indicate that TBI can cause a wide range of conditions such as: Sensitivity to noise Light distractions Blurred vision or eyes that tire easily Loss of taste or smell Ringing in the ears How a person thinks Memory Loss If you are suffering from any of the above symptoms, please contact your local ASIVO office or the National Office toll free at 1 888-826-0846
